DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:

The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences invites applicants to apply for an Assistant Professor position in its Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Fine Art Photography programs. The successful candidate will teach five courses over the course of the academic year, including technical and conceptual undergraduate and graduate-level courses in digital and analogue photography, critique courses, and other courses. The ideal candidate will contribute to the interdisciplinary vibrancy of the Fine Art Photography option in the BFA in Photographic Imaging Arts and MFA in Photography and Related Media programs, their students and curriculum, and within the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences and the College of Art and Design in which this position is housed.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) is internationally recognized for its professional study of photographic practices in a wide array of related disciplines, including advertising, fine art, photojournalism, visual media, and photographic sciences. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An MFA in photography or related areas of study
  • Minimum two years of higher education teaching experience beyond graduate school
  • Record of artistic exhibition at the national and international level, as well as other appropriate scholarly and professional distinctions
  • Demonstrated conceptual, historical, theoretical knowledge of contemporary photography and fine art
  • Facility with technical digital and analog photographic processes
  • Proficiency with appropriate software programs including Light Room, Photoshop, etc.
  • Fluency with foundations of video preferred
  • Ability to assist students in developing their professional skills as practicing artists
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
