MARIO EINAUDI CENTER FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES

One of the country’s premier international studies’ centers, the Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies (Einaudi Center) is Cornell’s crossroads for research, teaching, and learning about the world. Through area studies and thematic programs, we strive to foster deep understanding and new knowledge of current events, histories, cultures and languages of the world. We support campus-wide multidisciplinary initiatives and forge transnational collaborations.

The Associate Director for Academic Programing serves as a member of the Einaudi Center’s senior staff team, contributing to the strategic vision and growth of the Center. S/he reports to the Director of the Einaudi Center and works in consultation with the Executive Director, and faculty leadership.

Working within the collaborative faculty governance structure, the position will be responsible for the following:
*In line with the academic mission of the Center, implement strategies for Center activities and programmatic functions that raise the profile of the Center, and forge linkages with other campus units and international partners.
*Oversee and implement Center-level programming, initiatives, and activities, working closely with Center programs to leverage resources towards integrated and high-profile programming where possible.
*Coordinate with the office of the vice provost for international affairs (OVPIA) on management of the inaugural Migrations Global Grand Challenge initiative, partnering with faculty and campus units as indicated.
*Work with the Director and faculty advisory committee(s) to manage and support the Center’s faculty and post-doctoral research teams, graduate training programs, and interdisciplinary and cross-program or cross-unit initiatives.
*Support the Center’s new Global Studies gateway course and seminar initiatives.
*Support the Center’s various undergraduate minors, assisting faculty with curriculum, student engagement and marketing.
*Plan and manage the center-wide faculty and graduate student grant/fellowship and training programs.
*Manage various visiting scholar and post-doctoral fellow programs.
*Work closely with Associate Director of Communications to support a coherent and effective communications and promotions strategy for the Center.
*Partner with the Associate Director of Communications on the Center’s publications initiative with CU Press (the Einaudi Global Perspectives Imprint).
*Work closely with Associate Director for Assessment and Grant Writing, to support data stewardship, analysis and evaluation, as well as grant-making.
*Provide supervision to program staff, graduate and undergraduate administrative student assistants.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree focused in international relations, international studies, global history, or another international related field with 3 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Sophisticated judgment, decision making, reasoning, critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with sensitivity to cultural differences, to establish trust, and to interact diplomatically. Ability to motivate, guide, counsel, and coordinate the work of others. This position requires the ability to work irregular hours and travel domestically and internationally approximately one to three weeks per year.

Excellent oral and written skills with ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely. Demonstrated experience in developing, managing, and marketing academic programs including developing budgets and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgetary limits. Strong organizational and project management skills. Proficiency in variety of standard office productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, networking, graphics, Internet, presentations, and desktop publishing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Given the academic nature of this role, a PhD or equivalent with international studies, relations, global history, or other related international focus is strongly preferred.
