CTL is an institute-wide unit which works with all disciplines. CTL strives to enhance the teaching and learning standard of excellence at Georgia Tech and promote environments where diverse learners can excel. The person who fills the position of Faculty Teaching and Learning Specialist will be a member of CTL and involved in an array of CTL programs and campus initiatives. This person will collaborate with colleagues in CTL and in campus units to enhance teaching and learning. In CTL, we envision a campus culture that promotes meaningful learning for all students, empowers people to engage in effective instruction, and values excellence in teaching. We are looking for someone who is passionate about facilitating the professional development of Georgia Tech faculty and instructional staff in matters related to teaching and learning.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will assist a wide range of faculty from new lecturers to tenured professors by serving as a resource for those who want to enhance their teaching, explore a teaching innovation, or improve their students’ learning. The successful candidate will be a superb communicator and able to converse fluently with subject matter experts in diverse academic disciplines. This full-time position reports to the CTL Director.


This is a dynamic administrative position with the following responsibilities:

  • Encourage the use of evidence-based, state-of-the-art teaching and learning practices in order to provide quality educational experiences for Georgia Tech learners.
  • Partner with campus constituents to implement both Institute and University System of Georgia (USG) initiatives that pertain to providing an inclusive and equitable learning environment at Georgia Tech.
  • Foster a culture of formative assessment and continuous improvement of teaching practices in order to enhance student learning in credit courses (both on campus and online).
  • Contribute to current teaching enrichment programs, including multi-disciplinary workshops, discipline-specific programs, and large campus events on teaching and learning.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of new CTL programming and events.
  • Provide individual consultation with faculty members upon request.
  • Participate in the recognition of excellence and innovation in teaching.
  • Collaborate with members of the CTL team and assist with projects as needed.
    It may be possible to teach up to one course per calendar year in an academic department if desired.

Required Qualifications

The minimum educational requirement for this position is a doctoral degree. Candidates should have teaching experience at the college/university level and a demonstrated commitment to improving their own teaching as they learn about and implement research-based practices in teaching. Evidence of mentoring and/or collaborating with peers or instructional staff to improve student learning is essential. The ability to attend to detail and manage multiple projects simultaneously is critical for success in this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of excellent teaching.
  • Experience providing professional development in higher education for faculty or graduate students either in a Center for Teaching and Learning or in an academic unit.
  • Evidence of excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience facilitating teaching enrichment workshops and/or learning communities.
  • Evidence of excellent project management skills.
  • Evidence of participating in the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or assisting others with SoTL initiatives.
  • Experience with developing, facilitating and assessing programs for faculty at various career stages.
  • Experience providing individual consultation on teaching and learning issues.

Proposed Salary

This position will be a member of the Faculty at Georgia Tech with a salary that is commensurate with degrees earned and prior experience. Georgia Tech offers an outstanding benefits package that includes 21 vacation days and 12 paid institutional holidays each year along with several group insurance and tax deferred programs.
