Instructional Consultant: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion focus at the University of Michigan

The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT) at the University of Michigan invites applications for an Instructional Consultant position focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in teaching and learning. This is a 2-year position with possibility of renewal starting as soon as possible. This position is an excellent professional opportunity to contribute to the work of a well-established teaching center with a strong DEI focus. Responsibilities: The Instructional Consultant will plan and facilitate workshops and programs focused on inclusive teaching; develop new programs to meet emerging needs; consult with individual instructors about pedagogy, course design, assessment, and other teaching-related matters; conduct midterm student feedback sessions; and develop written resources to be shared with instructors – all with a focus on promoting equitable and inclusive teaching practices and accessibility across a range of disciplines at U-M. All CRLT consultants are provided professional development opportunities (including conference attendance, relevant training, and collaboration opportunities) to help develop their skills and connect with a network of educational development professionals at CRLT and beyond.

Required qualifications for this position include: a demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, inclusion, social justice, and/or access in higher education; strong skills and knowledge base for consulting with a broad range of U-M instructors (with diverse social identities, cultural and educational backgrounds, institutional roles, and disciplines) on pedagogical challenges and strategies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion; strong facilitation skills; familiarity with the literature on faculty development and learning improvement, including literature on inclusive teaching practices; ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team; and project management skills, including the ability to meet timelines and prioritize multiple tasks. Candidates should hold a completed Ph.D. degree (candidates will be considered who have a verified defense date at the time of application) and have a record of successful teaching in a university or college setting.

Desired qualifications include: experience consulting with or mentoring faculty and/or GSIs about their teaching, workshop facilitation experience in a higher ed setting, and a background in the humanities or social sciences.
