The CTL provides a wide array of programs, events, and services that foster innovation in teaching, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the translation of education research into local practice. It is a partnership among Academic Affairs, University Information Technology Services, and University Library.

Position Overview:

The instructional design consultant assists faculty and departments in addressing complex teaching and learning issues related to instructional design, teaching methods, assessment, and curriculum planning through individual consultations, workshops, and programs. The consultant plans, develops, and implements programmatic activities that support the mission of the Center for Teaching and Learning and campus initiatives. He or she is expected to stay current with literature about faculty development related to consultations or programmatic responsibilities. The successful candidate will be sensitive to faculty roles and responsibilities and interact collaboratively with center colleagues, faculty, students, and administrators.

Primary responsibilities of the instructional design consultant:

  1. Implement programmatic activities for instructional support by planning and assisting in the delivery of orientations, workshops, and presentations. Develop web/print materials on teaching for internal and external distribution. Provide online and classroom teaching feedback services including online course reviews, classroom observations, and student focus group facilitation.
  2. Consult with faculty, academic staff, and academic units on instruction, course design, teaching methods, assessment of student learning, inclusive teaching, course evaluation, and curriculum planning.
  3. Manage projects funded by Center for Teaching and Learning grant programs. Assist faculty awardees with determining appropriate project timeline, monitor progress to ensure the project is on track, and communicate regularly with faculty to ensure they are receiving support as needed from the CTL.
  4. Demonstrate a scholarly approach to studying issues in teaching and learning or faculty development.
  5. Contribute to program planning and other maintenance needs of the unit.
  6. Pursue professional development through reading, conference attendance and other strategies.
  7. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications:
Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent required

Minimum Experience: 1-3 years experience in faculty and/or future faculty development,
post-secondary teaching, or education-related research.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Requires excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to meet strict deadlines, deal with frequent interruptions, manage stress of competing demands for time, and accomplish several concurrent tasks effectively.
