The Department of Science and Mathematics at the National Institute for the Deaf (NTID) is seeking to fill a 9-month lecturer (non-tenure-track) faculty position in the field of mathematics. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide direct instruction in mathematics (Prealgebra to Precalculus) to deaf and hard-of hearing students in associate and baccalaureate-level degree programs;
  • May tutor deaf and hard-of-hearing students enrolled in baccalaureate-level mathematics courses where instructor workload and academic background permits and department need necessitates;
  • Already be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) as determined by the college sign language proficiency rating system and will use ASL to teach and tutor;
  • Fulfill other faculty expectations including those related to service, communication, and diversity.

  • Master’s degree in mathematics or mathematics education, or a related field in the statistical, computational, or mathematical sciences, or engineering. Applications will also be considered from applicants who hold a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields and a master’s degree in deaf education or a related field. Candidates who are in the final stages of completing a master’s degree in any of these fields will be considered but must have completed all degree requirements by the first day of contract to be hired.
  • Prior teaching and/or tutoring experience (including graduate teaching assistantship work and/or student teaching) in mathematics or a related field.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language.
