Job Description: Assistant Director for Diversity and Inclusion

The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching at Northwestern University has an opening for a new position, an Assistant Director for Diversity and Inclusion. This person will develop, implement, support and research support short and long-term initiatives around inclusion and diversity for instructors at all levels, offering training around inclusive teaching, intergroup dialogues, and strategies for creating inclusive learning and research environments.

We envision that that this person will provide strategic direction and leadership related to Searle and University-wide initiatives around inclusive learning and teaching; develop and implement training (workshops, roundtables, conversations, dialogues) around inclusive learning and teaching initiatives and creating inclusive research environments at Northwestern; consult with individual faculty, graduate students, postdocs, academic units, and schools on a wide variety of issues related to inclusion, diversity and equity in learning and teaching contexts; engage in scholarly work, including original research and grant development, on inclusive learning and teaching initiatives in higher education; develop resources related to inclusive learning and teaching to be disseminated in training sessions and on Searleā€™s website; and supervise 2-3 research assistants, interns, and/or work-study students.

This person will coordinate with the Office of the Provost and Institutional Diversity and Inclusion, the Associate Provost for Faculty, the Graduate School and other school and department efforts in diversity and inclusion.

We seek candidates who have experience working in a Learning and Teaching Center or similar unit, expertise in areas related to diversity and inclusive teaching practices, and experience with teaching in higher education.
