The Graphic Media & Science Technology (GMST) department in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology (CET) is currently seeking applications from exceptional candidates at the mid - to senior-career level for a full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Professor of Practice (PoP). The successful applicant is able to provide effective, practice-oriented instruction in areas that supplement the core pedagogical instruction provided by regular faculty; and has a distinguished and sustained record of achievement. The appointment may be renewed annually up to a maximum of five years. Annual renewal is conditional upon satisfactory annual performance, projected departmental needs and/or college resources, and compliance with RIT policies and procedures. Candidates for this position will be expected to teach and develop industry-relevant lecture and laboratory courses in Print and Graphic Media Science and Technology in established and emerging technologies at the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science levels. Expertise in established graphic technologies including pre-media, conventional printing processes, digital printing processes, graphic workflow, variable data, and the requisite materials is required. In addition, the willingness to embrace the development of courses involving emerging technologies, such as implementing augmented and virtual reality and the technologies of functional printing using advanced materials is expected. As CET also houses programs with related disciplines, including packaging science and environmental sustainability, health, and safety, the successful candidate will be expected to support interdisciplinary teaching and research opportunities within the college.

Responsibilities will include teaching, service, and scholarship. Teaching will consist of course and laboratory development with delivery via traditional and non-traditional formats, and graduate thesis and capstone advisement. Service will include contributions to the department, college, and university; and maintaining a clear professional development agenda to support the department’s growth. Scholarship productivity, including publications in a well-defined area of focus that enhances and complements the department’s strategic objectives, is expected. The position is at the level of Professor of Practice. The position begins in mid-August 2022. A Ph.D. in printing technology, graphic communication, graphic media science, industrial studies, materials science, or a closely related field is required, as is at least ten years of full-time teaching at the university level, and sustained interactions with the industry.

  • PhD. in printing technology, graphic communication, graphic media science, industrial studies, materials science, or a closely related field is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the field of graphic communication in areas such as traditional, digital, and functional printing technologies, and especially in the areas of database publishing, web page development, variable data printing, information architecture, and pre-media / graphic media production automation
  • Minimum of 10 years teaching at the University level
  • Evidence of scholarly activity in the field of graphic communication and related areas
  • Demonstrated high-quality teaching experience and ability to deliver instruction relevant to the graphic media, packaging, and printed electronics industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach engaging, hands-on laboratory learning experiences
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
