The Programs in Applied Statistical Sciences (PASS) encompasses traditional areas of statistics and interdisciplinary fields such as Data Mining, Data Science, and Analytics. Degree programs include a BS in Applied Statistics and Data Analytics, an MS in Applied Statistics, a PhD. in Mathematical Modelling, and two advanced certificates. The MS program is a professional master’s degree intended to create informed users of statistical methods. The Professor of Practice brings experience from outside academia to enrich learning opportunities for our students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach on-campus and online undergraduate and graduate courses

Contribute to development of new academic courses and programs

Attract and build relationships with industry and government that lead to successful collaborations

Lead collaborative initiatives with industry and government

Advise, mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in experiential learning opportunities

About the Department/College:

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is one of six academic units in RIT’s College of Science, which also houses the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, the Integrated Sciences Academy, the School of Chemistry and Materials Science, the School of Physics and Astronomy, and the Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences. The SMS promotes research in mathematical and statistical sciences and is the home of 77 faculty members, four administrative staff members, three undergraduate programs (Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, and Applied Statistics and Data Analytics), two MS programs (Applied and Computational Mathematics, Applied Statistics) and a Ph.D. program in Mathematical Modeling. The SMS offers the required mathematics and statistics courses for students from all RIT programs.

  • Ph.D. in Statistics, or a closely related field, with all requirements for degree completed before start date
  • Substantial experience applying statistical methods in a non-academic setting
  • Potential for successful college teaching, demonstrated through teaching experience (may include TA experience and activities that address commitment to undergraduate and graduate education)
  • Potential to mentor and support undergraduate and graduate students in experiential learning opportunities
  • Potential to attract and build relationships with industry and government
  • Potential to lead successful collaborations with industry and government that include experiential learning opportunities for students
