Research Associate Position in Science Education at Harvard University

Research Associate Position Description
The Science Education Department at the Harvard College Observatory has established itself as a leader in empirical STEM education research. We have collected an extensive portfolio of large-scale datasets in the following areas: predictors of student success in introductory college STEM courses; predictors of beginning college students’ interest in STEM careers; outcomes of professional development courses for science teachers; and predictors of attrition in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in STEM. We have also been developing test banks, based on the National Research Council standards and the Next Generation Science Standards, in all sciences and across all grade bands (K-12). The Research Associate will analyze the existing datasets and co-author research publications as a member of our research team. Typical techniques include hierarchical linear modeling, logistic regression, propensity weighting, factor analysis, regression discontinuity, classical test theory, and item response theory. The Research Associate will also serve as mentor to the junior members of our research team.
