The Searle Center for Advancing Learning and Teaching is seeking a Senior Assessment Associate, who will support a wide range of assessment initiatives across the university.

The Senior Assessment Associate supports the university in developing and implementing small- and large-scale assessments of learning. This person will lead the assessment of learning in a variety of contexts including class/course innovations, research projects, program evaluations, curricular development, and online and digital learning. They will develop evaluation plans for grant proposals; develop and implement training (workshops, roundtables, conversations, dialogues) and assessment and evaluation; develop resources related to assessment, evaluation and grant writing engage in scholarly research; and help guide the assessment components of the University’s reaccreditation process for the Higher Learning Commission. This person may also supervise 2-3 research assistants, interns, and/or work-study students.

The Senior Assessment Associate will partner with Associate Deans in the schools, Associate Vice Presidents in Program Review, Information Technology, and Assistant and Associate Provosts in the Registrar’s Office and Office of the Provost in support of learning assessment and evaluation at Northwestern. This person will collaborate with faculty, center directors and associate directors, and staff in support of evaluation of research grants and projects at Northwestern.

We seek candidates who have experience working in a Learning and Teaching Center or similar unit, expertise in assessment and evaluation, and experience with teaching and learning in higher education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social science, education, or related field; 1-2 years experience managing data and research projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods (e.g. focus groups, surveys, interviews)
  • Experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data and interpreting results
  • Demonstrated ability and efficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database management using Microsoft Office, statistical programs such as SPSS or R, Excel and on-line-survey tools such as Qualtrics
  • Ability to work in a professional manner as both a self-starter and as a collaborative team member
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to interact effectively with college students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in social science or education or evaluation; emphasis on assessment and/or evaluation

  • 2-4 years’ experience with assessment and program evaluation in higher education settings

  • Experience in designing and implementing direct and indirect assessments of learning in higher education

  • Experience supporting accreditation in a higher education setting

  • Deep knowledge of learning and teaching and assessment in higher education
