The Department of Computer and Information Technology in the Purdue Polytechnic Institute seeks to hire a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the Cyberlearning Consortium at Purdue with the mission of creating and appropriating technology-based solutions that enable learners to express themselves through making, programming, experimenting, constructing, and inventing. Duties: The postdoctoral associate will work with a team of designers, computer scientists, engineering faculty, science educators, and educational researchers across Purdue to support existing cyberlearning projects, as well as to start a new related but independent are of research. Possible research areas to support include: (a) Investigate and support undergraduate engineering students’ development of computational adaptive expertise in the context of modeling and simulation practices; (b) Investigate how haptic technologies can serve as cognitive mediators for conceptual understanding and representational competence in STEM; © Investigate pedagogical approaches and learning technologies that promote/support science-informed design decisions in integrated STEM learning environments; (d) Use of machine learning, educational data mining, and learning analytics for supporting feedback, assessment and education research; and (e) Create effective environments for increasing academic proficiency in STEM via grounded or embodied approaches.

Qualifications required: PhD in Learning Sciences, Educational Technology, Educational Psychology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Education, Education, or a closely related field. Experience with writing and publishing in international peer-reviewed journals or conferences are expected. Expertise applying qualitative and quantitative research methods and some knowledge about learning analytics. Programming expertise and ability/willingness to learn how to program new technologies. In addition, the applicant should be highly motivated, able to work well in a diverse group, comfortable giving and receiving constructive criticism, and have strong abilities for critical thinking and structured work. Excellent skills in spoken and written English are an absolute requirement.

Start date: August 15, 2018 (or negotiable).
