The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, (https://me.lafayette.edu), invites applications for two visiting assistant professor positions beginning in July 2022. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or related field by the start of their appointment. As an undergraduate-only institution, Lafayette is first and foremost seeking those committed to being a dynamic and inclusive teacher. Secondly, the Department values a willingness to teach courses that have hands-on experiences, including both laboratory and capstone design courses. Each position is a 1 year full-time appointment, with the equivalent of a three-course teaching load per semester; continuation of the appointment for more than one year is possible.

The Mechanical Engineering Department features small class sizes, hands-on laboratory experiences in each year of the curriculum, and five to six student-selected year-long capstone design projects annually The Department graduates fifty to sixty majors each year, of whom approximately forty-five percent are from groups typically underrepresented in engineering and thirty percent are women.

The Department offers professional development support through class observations and mentorship. Lafayette College also supports our visiting faculty members through a year-long orientation and development program for all new faculty members organized by our Center for the Integration of Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship (CITLS). They also have access to other regular planning by CITLS and our Hanson Center for Inclusive STEM Education. Visiting faculty members are offered funding for travel to a professional conference and for research students through our EXCEL Scholars and Clare Boothe Luce Scholars programs.
