Visiting Lecturer, School of Chemistry and Materials Science


The School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a temporary visiting lecturer position to begin in January 2023. This is a one-year temporary position with the possibility of continuation in the following academic year.

Candidates should possess the education, skills, and experience to: (1) teach and coordinate a large number of primarily General Chemistry Labs and (2) teach Organic Chemistry Labs and Quantitative Analysis Labs. The School of Chemistry and Materials Science (SCMS) typically operates between 28-32 sections of general chemistry. The successful candidate should be able to engage students through personalized pedagogy to be active participants in their learning, help the students build confidence in their intellectual abilities, and develop alternate strategies to help students grasp the material. RIT and SCMS value innovative pedagogy and active learning activities both in the classroom and the associated laboratory.

  • Advanced degree: MS in Chemistry, or a closely related field
  • At least one semester teaching experience at the university level
  • Proven competency in one or more of the following areas: General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Inorganic Chemistry
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
